Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 October 2026 · Applies to brainonia.com and the Brainonia game at beta.brainonia.com
The short version
- Students never create accounts. They join a game with a code and a nickname. We never ask students for an email, a photo, an address, a phone number or a birth date.
- Nicknames exist only while the game room is open and are not stored afterwards.
- We keep anonymous game statistics (which answer was picked for which question) to fix wrong or unclear questions. They contain no names and cannot be linked to a person.
- No advertising, no selling or renting of data, no tracking cookies.
What we collect, and why
| Data | From whom | Why | Kept |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nickname, chosen animal, in-game answers and score | Students | To run the live game | Only in server memory while the room is open; deleted when it closes |
| Anonymous answer records: random room id, "player number N", question, option picked, right/wrong | Students | To find and fix wrong or confusing questions | Up to 24 months |
| Question reports (a reason from a fixed list, no free text) and the 2-tap end-of-game survey | Students and teachers | To improve questions and the game | Up to 24 months |
| Usage counts: a room was opened, a game started/ended, how many players, which mode | Automatic | To know whether the game is used and works | Up to 24 months |
| Question sets a teacher writes or drafts with AI (title, language, grade, questions) | Teachers | So the teacher can play them | Until the teacher asks us to delete them |
| Beta sign-up: email, role, grades, country, subject, language, approximate country of the request | Adults who fill in the form on brainonia.com | To invite you to the beta and ask for feedback | Until you unsubscribe or ask for deletion |
| Page-view statistics on brainonia.com (no cookies, no personal profile) | Visitors | To count visits | As kept by Cloudflare Web Analytics |
Please use first names or nicknames, not full names. The game filters offensive nicknames and lets the teacher rename or remove a player, but it cannot tell whether a nickname is someone's real name.
Children's privacy (COPPA, FERPA, Vietnamese Decree 13/2023)
Brainonia is designed to be used in class under a teacher's supervision, including by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children: no accounts, no contact details, nothing stored that identifies a student. If you believe a child's personal information has reached us (for example a full name typed as a nickname that ended up in a question report), email us and we will delete it.
Schools and teachers remain in control of how they use the game with their students. We do not use student data for advertising, profiling or any purpose other than running and improving the game.
Data stored on your device
The game keeps a few small items in your browser so a page reload does not end your game: your interface language, the ids of question sets you saved, and the code of the room you are in. They never leave your device except to rejoin your own room. No advertising or tracking cookies are used.
Who processes data for us
| Service | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Fly.io | Runs the game server and stores the anonymous logs and teacher question sets | Singapore |
| Cloudflare | Hosts brainonia.com, the beta sign-up list, email forwarding and cookie-free visit statistics | Global network |
| Anthropic (Claude) | When a teacher asks the AI to draft questions, the topic, grade, language and number of questions are sent to draft and double-check them. No student data is sent. | United States |

Changes
Brainonia is in beta. If we change what we collect, we will update this page and its date before the change applies. We will not start collecting personal information from students without asking schools first.
